Utilize Waste Coconut Shell, And Produce Billions of Rupiah.

Ilustration

JAKARTA, NNC - Researcher of Soil Neneng Research Institute Laela Nurida said that the Indonesian Soil Research Institute records that Indonesian agriculture annually produces about 25.4 million tons of waste, consisting of coconut shell, rice husk, coconut shell, oil palm shell, corncob, and cassava stalks.

Neneng added that biochar can be distributed in a way, evenly distributed (plant path), and embedded into planting holes. According to him, the application in a distributed way is done by immersing biochar together with the final soil treatment. If applied in a runway on the planting path, biochar is covered with soil before planting.

"Applications in a more practical way are dispersed, but the risk of being transported by water during rainfall is higher than that of the array or on the planting hole." The application in a run or on the planting hole requires more labor, "said Neneng, in a press release on Sunday (15/4/2018).
In dryland that is commonly found in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, biochar feeding on 5-10 hectares of land can increase the availability of water in the soil, so the intensity of planting increases from once to twice per year.

Giving of rice husk biochar and 5-10 hectares cocoa leaf husk on acid dry land in Lampung gives stable yields for up to three consecutive planting seasons without adding biochar in the second and third growing season.

For farmers, gradually giving biochar every season is more advisable as it is more likely. This is because agricultural waste is available in the field and can be used as raw material.

Neneng explained that so far, the soil enhancers used by farmers are generally manure, compost, and plant biomass, in which the soil will quickly decay and its effect is only temporary.
According to Neneng, biochar is a potential alternative soil enhancer to repair degraded land. "Biochar can last a long time on the ground because the decomposition process runs slowly and is resistant to microorganisms."
